CAPT Board of Directors for 2016

CAPT is governed by a Board of Directors that is elected bi-annually by membership.

The CAPT Board of Directors operates in accordance with CAPT’s by-laws and Robert’s Rules of Order.

Below are the members of the current CAPT Board of Directors

Mary Fulford-Winsor CTP Dipl, RP, MFA President

I graduated from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in 2010. Additional education credentials include an MFA in theatre design from Brandeis University. My practice for individuals and couples is near Cabbagetown in Toronto. Prior to working full-time as a psychotherapist, I worked in theatre for decades as a designer, manager, and teacher, and I cherished the creative collaboration. Working on the CAPT Board for the last three years has allowed me to welcome the creative team experience back into my life, and I am grateful to be a part of this dynamic and inspiring environment. I am the proud mother of three unique and always surprising young adults. The challenges and joys of being involved in human relationships – as part of a coupIe, during a creative experience, on a committee or board, as a parent or teacher, or in a therapeutic alliance – are at the intersection of all roads that I have journeyed and at the core of what matters to me. I look forward to continuing growing new relationships with the CAPT community.

Wendy Fredricks Vice President

I began my work life as an elementary-school teacher and spent three years in a challenging open-concept setting with kids aged 8 to 12. I left teaching to move to England for a year with my spouse, and upon return, I landed a job with an advertising agency, working in marketing for twenty years as a strategic planner. Between marketing and psychotherapy, I had a transitional position as a recruiter, where my intuition and counseling abilities were used to good effect. I trained at the Integral Healing Centre, drawn there by a program that combined hard-core psychotherapy theory with a spiritual overlay. I now teach the first year of this training program.

I have served on the CAPT Board for two years as Chair of Membership and two years as Vice President. I look forward to another two-year term as Vice President. Service to the membership defines CAPT, and sitting on the Board allows me to exercise skills attained in my former careers to promote and support those who share my passion for psychotherapy. It continues to be a joy.

Carolina Edwards Secretary

I am the Executive Director and Senior Faculty of the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and a psychotherapist in private practice. My initial training in communicative disorders from the University of Western Ontario, specializing in audiology, has given me a unique opportunity to explore counseling in the context of children and families with hearing loss. I worked in educational settings for many years setting up a consulting practice for school boards across southwestern Ontario, and later completed my MBA at the University of Toronto. Graduating from the postgraduate training program at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto in 1994, I later joined the teaching faculty there, where I have taught for the past 18 years. In June 2013 I assumed the role of Executive Director of the Gestalt Institute of Toronto. I joined the CAPT Board of Directors in 2014 and am delighted to continue to assist in furthering goals of the association.

Ali Crosthwait Treasurer

I spent the first 15 years of my career as a trader and researcher in quantitative finance. Since graduating from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in 2014, I have been building a private practice for individuals and couples in downtown Toronto. I joined the CAPT board because I believe that our work is important and requires advocacy – advocacy with the College, with other health care professionals, and also with the general public. I love to write and have a blog for non-therapists about psychotherapy called The Good Therapists.

Gord MacLeod Member at Large

In what seems like a former life, I was a singer – a lovely way to spend one’s 20s. I got to see a great deal of Canada and Europe while performing with orchestras and opera companies. Returning to “civilian” life, I began working in the supported employment field, assisting people with intellectual disabilities to secure and maintain paid employment in the competitive workforce.

I graduated from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in June 2006. Since then, I have participated in many workshops through the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and completed the Level II training through the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. At present, I divide my time between maintaining a private practice and managing an ODSP-funded employment program for people with intellectual disabilities.

Having served on boards for a variety of community organizations, most recently the Job Opportunity Information Network for People with Disabilities (JOIN), I welcome the opportunity to assist CAPT in developing and expanding support services for therapists across Canada.

Jay Tropianskaia Member at Large

I am the Director of Training and Senior Faculty at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and a psychotherapist in private practice. I have been working at the growing edge of Gestalt for over 22 years, contributing to the legacy of Gestalt training in Toronto, most recently through the codification of the five-year curriculum and mapping of competencies throughout the program, in response to CRPO’s recognition process. In addition to my commitment to the Training Program, I create and offer programs as varied as the Gestalt approach to addictions, anger management, the art of relationship, and working with couples. I graduated from the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and have had a private practice in Toronto since 1992. I support CAPT’s role as the voice for psychotherapists in Canada. I have been on the CAPT Board of Directors since 2014.

Sally Wright Chair of Membership

I graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA specializing in English literature.
Following graduation, I worked in the financial markets on Bay Street in sales and management then left this job to raise my two children. During this time I lived in London England for several years.

I returned to school when my children were older, and I studied to become a therapist, graduating from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in 2011. I have a private practice in the Annex area. My work is varied, involving both couples and individuals. Since graduation I have completed the Emotionally Focused Externship for Couples Therapy and Sensorimotor Training Level 1. I have finished Level two Sensorimotor training. I am enrolled in Core Skills EFT training beginning fall of 2016.

In addition, I have done extensive work on not-for-profit boards, including six years on the Women’s College Hospital Foundation Board. I bring these skills to the CAPT board.

Many changes have and are happening in our profession. CAPT members have a strong board that is working hard, on a volunteer basis to facilitate these new changes as smoothly as possible.

Jena Ledson Ex-officio Member

I graduated from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in 2009 and am trained in both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy. I am passionate about longer-term, ongoing therapeutic work that can facilitate profound degrees of change. I joined the CAPT Board in 2012. My arts-based background, my comprehensive training in several modes of psychotherapy, and my ongoing clinical work inform both my philosophy and my approach. In addition to my persistent and ongoing efforts to better myself as a psychotherapist, I have an idiosyncratically restrained passion for many things, including technology, design, photography, cake-baking, and rotary phones.

The CAPT Board of Directors operates in accordance with CAPT’s By-Laws, and Robert’s Rules of Order.
